Flu Shot Season is Here Again
Update: Friday, November 13
We Are Out of Seasonal Influenza Vaccine
We hope to receive more vaccine but cannot predict when this will happen. Please check back with this site and we will post the information as soon as more arrives.
What about H1N1 Flu Shots & Nasal Mist?
Our office will not be getting the H1N1 Flu vaccine, and we recommend that you go to Fremont County Nursing Services for this vaccine. Their flu shot clinics are on Tuesdays. Information on times, locations, and vaccine availability by risk group, you may:
- Call the recorded Flu Line at 719-276-7468
- Log on to www.fremontco.com
- Check the Saturday edition of the Daily Record
Children age 9 and under will need two doses of the H1N1 vaccine (either the nasal mist or the injection) given 4 weeks apart to be fully protected. Children 10 and up need only one dose of either form of the vaccine.
Children may receive the nasal mist (instead of the injection) if they are:
- age 2 or over
- do not have asthma, diabetes, or disease of the heart, liver, kidneys, or lungs
- are not on aspin therapy
- do not have nerve damage that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems (example: severe cerebral palsy)
- do not have severe weakening of the immune system, such as requiring care in a protected environment of a bone marrow transplant unit. (A child who has completed chemotherapy or radiation treatment and is stable may receive the nasal vaccine.)
Children who do not meet these criteria should instead get the H1N1 flu shot, which is NOT a live virus vaccine.
