Immunizing your child fully is an important step toward a lifetime of good health. Pediatric Associates of Canon City provides the most comprehensive and most easily accessible immunization program in the Fremont County area. ALL of the reccomended immunizations for children and adolescents are carefully maintained in our clinic, are available at every visit, and are administered by well trained and knowledgeable staff. If we don't have a recommended vaccine, it's because there is a manufacturer's shortage, and currently no doctor's office can access it. Our practice is dedicated toward providing the children of our community with this vital protection, and educating families about the importance of becoming fully immunized against communicable diseases.
Prompt and efficient access to immunizations makes health care easier for families and more effective for the whole community. Most families choose to get immunizations done during a Well Child Check or routine physical, but we will provide them on other visits if the child is not acutely ill.
Proper documentation of immunizations is just as important--patients should get every immunization they need, but not one shot more. Our office uses Colorado Immunization Information Service (CIIS), a secure website accessible by doctor's offices (and eventually, hospitals) around the state. This service provides many benefits:
- No shot record is ever lost.
- The printed record is legible, and welcomed by schools and day care providers.
- Your printed copy is available immediately when the shot is given. We will add all shots given previously from the old shot record you bring in. You will leave the office with a complete and current record.
- Your child's shot record can be accessed by any other Colorado doctor's office (or hospital) with CIIS access. This is very helpful if you need to check tetanus shot status with an injury, and can save your child an unneeded shot!
Historical Note: After Hurricane Katrina we saw children who had lost their home, school, and doctor's office and had no documentation of their shots. Those registered with Louisiana's shot website were able to recover the full record with no need to repeat what they had already received. Secured websites are excellent for this kind of record keeping!
When are my child's immunizations due?
Routine vaccinations are due at: 2 months; 4 months; 6 months; 12 months; 15 months; 2 years; 4-6 years, and 11-12 years. This coincides with the standard Well Child Check schedule.
