Dr. Ellen L. McCormick, MD, FAAP
Dr. McCormick is a native of the Canon City area. She was born in Florence, CO and graduated from Canon City High School. She received her B.A. from CU Boulder, attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver for her M.D., and completed her Pediatric Residency training at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Texas. She served with the Air Force for eleven years, and later with the Army Reserve for fourteen years. After completing her last active duty service at Peterson Air Force Base, she returned to Canon City in 1995 with her family to practice with Pediatric Associates of Canon City. She is married with three grown children, and is very happy to be a member and supporter of her home town community.
McCormick is board certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Fremont County Medical Society, serves on several hospital committees, and chairs the St. Thomas More Hospital Community Board.
Janet Krein, PA-C
Janet Krein PA-C has recently joined Dr. Ellen McCormick in her practice at Pediatric Associates of Cañon City in September 2008. She has been continuously practicing as a Physician Assistant for 18 years and has specialized in Pediatrics and Neonatology, both in private practice and hospital inpatient Pediatrics and NICU. Since 1994, she has done Breastfeeding education and home visits for newborns and in 2007, became a certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Her most recent position was with a large Pediatric group in Flagstaff, Arizona for the past 4 years. Her husband of 35 years, Michael, is a High School AP Chemistry and Physics teacher and Swim Coach who is finishing his school year in Flagstaff until June 2009. They have two sons, Shaun age 29 and David age 25 who are in Arizona.
Janet graduated from the Yale University School of Medicine Physician Associate Program in August 1990. She began her career as a staff Physician Assistant at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Connecticut in NICU, Pediatrics and Labor and Delivery, covering high risk deliveries, premature births and working with Neonatologists. Norwalk Hospital had a Pediatric and Neonatology PA Residency program affiliated with Yale New Haven Medical Center. She was responsible for teaching PA Residents and PA students and working with area Pediatricians. She left this position in 1998 to join a private practice in Pediatrics in Connecticut, then moved to Flagstaff in 2004. She completed a Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies specializing in General Pediatrics from University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Janet is delighted to be in Cañon City and to be practicing with Dr. McCormick.
